{"id":1412,"date":"2026-06-05T14:51:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T14:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aadhuniklabs.com\/casp-blog\/?p=1412"},"modified":"2026-06-06T10:26:43","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T10:26:43","slug":"mqtt-communication-between-iot-devices-with-vega-aries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aadhuniklabs.com\/casp-blog\/mqtt-communication-between-iot-devices-with-vega-aries\/","title":{"rendered":"MQTT Communication between IoT Devices with Vega Aries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This example demonstrates how to communicate between a remote computer and a micro-controller board located at different geographical locations through IoT MQTT protocol. Both devices shall be connected to the internet. ESP8266 WiFi module is used for connecting the micro-controller board to the internet through a local WiFi router. Analog and digital signals are acquired from the target board and send them to the remote computer where the signals are monitored (plotted and displayed). Some onboard LEDs of the target board are also controlled from the remote computer through the same channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this example the host PC (that is used to program the micro-controller board) is used as the remote computer for monitoring and control. User is encouraged to use any remote computer for monitoring &amp; control and to experience the true potential of the IoT protocol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">User has to have access to a MQTT broker for this example to work. This example uses a free online MQTT broker available at the time of testing this example. Same IP address may not work for the user. Some of the free online MQTT brokers available at the time of writing this article are: broker.emqx.io, mqtt.eclipseprojects.io, broker.hivemq.com and public.cloud.shiftr.io. User may try one of these domain names for experimenting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Target<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aries v2.0 development board is used in this project. However, any supported micro-controller board can be used. ESP8266 WiFi module is used with the micro-controller board to enable wireless connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pre-Requisites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">CASP software is installed on the host PC<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Vega Aries BSP is installed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The project files are located at CASP installed directory \u2018CASP\/support\/examples\/vega_aries_examples\/iot\/03_mqtt_server\u2019. These are also available for download at this <a href=\"https:\/\/aadhuniklabs.com\/casp\/casp_web_examples\/vega_aries_examples\/iot\/03_mqtt_server.zip\">link<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Connection Diagram &amp; Model<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connect the circuit as shown below. Below figure shows a snap shot of ESP8266 block parameters in the target model. Similar settings shall be configured in the \u2018Windows IP\u2019 block of the native model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"746\" height=\"492\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/aadhuniklabs.com\/casp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image003-1.jpg?fit=746%2C492&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/aadhuniklabs.com\/casp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image003-1.jpg?w=746&amp;ssl=1 746w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/aadhuniklabs.com\/casp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image003-1.jpg?resize=300%2C198&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/aadhuniklabs.com\/casp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image003-1.jpg?resize=150%2C99&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 746px) 100vw, 746px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Connect the peripherals as shown in above connection diagram and connect the target board to the host PC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Launch CASP and open the downloaded project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Open Home-&gt;Simulation-&gt;Setup Simulation Parameters menu item. Under TargetHW-&gt;General tabs set \u2018Target Programmer Port\u2019 parameter to the serial port to which the board is connected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Configure the network parameters of the \u2018ESP8266 block\u2019 as shown in above figure. A simulation panel window should open and communicate with the MQTT broker.
